A Daily Dose of Art: A Playlist in Memory of Patricia Weaver Byrd

Yesterday, I attended the funeral of Patricia Weaver Byrd. I didn’t know Ms. Byrd, but I’m friends with her daughter, Bettina Byrd-Giles, and I was glad to be present with Bettina and those who knew Ms. Byrd as her life was remembered and celebrated.

It was a delight hearing stories about Ms. Byrd—especially those connected to her love and talent for music. So, this morning I took a few minutes to put together a playlist featuring the music from yesterday’s service.

You can watch a video of the service here. Bettina’s excellent eulogy can be found at the 1:02:00 mark.

A video of Bettina’s grandfather—Pat’s father— singing “Wasted Years” can be found at the 1:41:50 mark. What a touching few minutes to behold. What a beautiful picture of how music connects us to the people, places, and times of the past, present, and future.

I hope to hear more about some of Ms. Byrd’s favorite songs so I can add them to the playlist.

Thank God for music. Thank God for opportunities to celebrate the lives and talents of people we love.

And I’d love to know >>> which songs remind you of loved ones who have died?
