A Daily Dose of Art: Saint Margaret of Cortona

Saint Margaret of Cortona is a saint for those who live with mental illness, people battling temptation, orphans, people whose piety is ridiculed, and a few other things

she’s a saint who’s claimed by a lot of people on the periphery, it seems

this wood sculpture is one of my art friends that I visit often at the Birmingham Museum of Art

I’m always blown away by the detail, the earnest expression, and the flowiness (that’s not a real word but it’s fine) of the fabric—how did they make wood look like fabric?

thankful for my local museum with convenient parking and free admission when I have a quiet hour to stop by and see a few of my favorites
