A Daily Dose of Art: The Way We Were

Last night I watched The Way We Were for the first time, in memory of Robert Redford.

Without many (any?) expectations, I liked the film overall. Of course, I appreciated the writer/writing/writing life threads even though they were somewhat minor in the grand scheme of things. It was interesting to compare the political events happening in the film to our present-day reality. I also loved Katie’s apartment, especially the tiny closet-like kitchen with those red cabinets. Barbara Streisand and Robert Redford had excellent chemistry, which was enjoyable to watch unfold. And there were some great one-liners scattered throughout, which never hurt.

Here’s an interesting take on the film.

Here’s the song, “The Way We Were.”

Here’s a book review of a book about the film.

And here’s that book about the film. (Which is only one of the books about this film!)

Here’s the other book about the film.

And, yes. I just ordered a used copy of the novel, The Way We Were. Because there was a novel first, and I need to know if the book is better than the movie.

Below is the original trailer for the film.
