Daily Doses of Art for February 2026

Below is a running list of some of my Daily Doses of Art for February 2026.

This is a lovely daily practice (when I do it!) that helps me review (or anticipate) my day and choose one art encounter to share. I usually have multiple art encounters each day, but it’s simpler to only share one.

February 1: The latest issue of Image journal, for the win. So much good stuff. More of my thoughts here.

February 2: I’m having cold symptoms so my attention span is very short. But of course I can scroll for hours on social media. I did take some time to look at my photos of a painting I saw last week. More details here.

February 3: Thank God for music. Lately, I’ve been listening to Billie Holiday.

February 4: I read several pages/entries of On Loneliness: How to overcome isolation and enjoy solitude (Photography series, 3) from The School of Life. Highly recommend.

February 5: I’m reading a digital ARC of K.J. Ramsey’s new book The Place Between Our Pains and it’s really good. And it’s available for pre-order.

February 6: More Billie Holiday. More Joan Mitchell. More feeling ick.

February 7: I am feeling a bit better today and have been re-reading A Writer’s Diary by Virginia Woolf. Also, today’s Daily Poem from The Paris Review is worth a read— “Portfolio” by Wahn Yoom.

February 8: I might encounter more art today, but so far I have only re-read the first sentence of Virginia Woolf’s On Being Ill, and it counts. Trust me. I may just keep returning to these words throughout the day when I need a boost of not-me.

February 9: While looking for music to pair with this Instagram reel about how white American Evangelicalism broke me almost 20 years ago, I learned about Pierre Boulez, and now I’m listening to his music.

February 10: Reread somepoems from Reparations Now! by Ashley M. Jones.

February 11: More poems from my google doc of favorite soul poems. A good mix.

February 12: Lots of music today. Listened to the country music playlist that I made for Brady when he started listening to country music five or so years ago.

February 13: Tim and I went to see Pretty in Pink at the movie theater down the street. So fun to see this film 40 years later.

February 14: Started watching Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Highly recommend!

February 15: More Miss Fisher’s.

February 16: More Miss Fisher’s.

February 17: I listened to “Dear Prudence” by The Beatles again and again while taking a long walk outside.

February 18: I listened to a lot of music by the Benedictines of Mary today. And I decided to give up all fiction for Lent that’s not fiction by Toni Morrison since Ash Wednesday and her birthday fall on the same day this year.

February 19: I started reading the novel God Help the Child by Toni Morrison.

February 20: More God Help the Child.

February 21: I finished the novel God Help the Child by Toni Morrison.

February 22: I read a digital ARC of On Witness and Repair: Essays by Jesmyn Ward.

February 23: I read the memoir Strangers by Belle Burden.

February 24: I started reading A Mercy by Toni Morrison. This is the first time I’ve read this novel.

February 25: More of A Mercy. Listened to some Chappell Roan.

February 26: Today I did a lot of reading for a book project that I don’t want to say much about right now. (Note to self: CH)

February 27: I read “Forsythia” by Ada Limón.You should too!

February 28: Natchez was playing at Sidewalk, so I went to the matinee and holy moly.
